Melville Dewy was born on December 10, 1851 in Adams Center, New York. Melville Dewey was a librarian in Amherst Columbia College in 1883. He is known as the father of modern librarianship, he developed the Dewey decimal classification to list books and other library material. He was the founder of the American Library Association, Decoctor of the World DDC scheme .. Davey copyrighted this system in 1876 He became the editor of the Library Journal in 1877. Davey is called everything from "the most resourceful librarian in the world"
